Wold on the brink of a perfect season

Wold hosted Crusaders this past Saturday afternoon in Wold last home league game of the season. Determined to keep up the 100% winning record going, Wold began on front foot with dominate play from the forwards with the scrum moving forward. This dominance at the set piece gave Wold territory to build from.
The first try came from a dominate scrum deep in the Crusaders 22 and the forward’s pushing crusaders pack back towards their try line. Once the ball broke from the scrum, George Osborne who was drafted in for Wold’s injured captain Sam Webb was able to break and reach for the line to score.
From this Wold began to gain a real upper hand and the rest of the first half was played in the Crusaders half of the pitch. Further control at the set piece set lead to James Hall diving over for his try of the game.
Despite having territory well in their favour, Wold were not taking full advance and passes were thrown away which was frustrating to watch, The odd knock on would halt Wold’s momentum.
Wold’s final try of the half came from the backs noticing a weakness in the Crusaders back line and Ben Balls was able to exploit the space given to him and run hard at his opposite number beating him for pace before scoring in the corner, 17-0 to wold at half time.
Although Wold were well clear at half time, the team were still looking for more opportunities to score and they knew they could play better. A half time substitution made a difference however when Pete Holmes who was back in the team after a few weeks out injured came off for Josh Crick who himself was not a 100% going into the game.
The switch was effective within minutes however when from the restart, the forwards were able to claim the ball before passing the ball out wide to the back. Josh himself found the weakness in the Crusaders defence and ran at pace away from his opposite man before running the length of pitch to score his first try.
The pace of the Wold’s backs continued to cause damage to the Crusaders team, and from a similar situation Josh was again able to cause the away team more trouble with his fast pace and his direct running. His second try came moments from a carbon copy of his try, his pace was too much for the Crusaders defence. However he had to come off because he felt his injury was flaring up again, what a great impact for only a few minutes!!!

Although Wold had secured the victory, they didn’t stop looking for opportunities to score. The backs were looking to exploit the space on the opposition at every opportunity, this lead to their next two tries when Richie Thickitt got the ball on his wing and he sprinted hard and first at the Crusaders back line handing off defenders before scoring in the corner. Wold’s final try came from again the backs running at the Crusaders defence at pace, and Ben Haddingham jinking his way to the line to score.

The only minus point of a suburb second half performance was when a penalty just inside the Wold 22 was given away and Crusaders were able to take advantage to get three points on the score board.

This bonus victory moves Wold past the 100 points for this season, what a great achievement!!

The team will want to finish the season with yet another bonus point victory away at Newmarket on the last day, which is on the 11th April

ARN THE WOLD!!
