Superb Finishing Gives Wold an Emphatic Victory

Poor Wymondham were on the wrong end of a total thrashing, which Wold have been threatening to do to someone for some time, and this was indeed the day they achieved it.
What was more scary was Wold were without props Des Brett and Adam Smith, regular scrum half Chippy Middleditch, and centre Pete Holmes, but their stand- ins in the shape of Paul Ellwood at prop, Darius Mullen at 9 and Aaron Bliss at 12 were all superb on the day. Hooker Chris Aldous comfortably moved across to prop for the day to fill the other vacancy with James Hall coming in to hook.
No one watching would have known this was not Wold's first choice line up which was emphasised by Wold's biggest win of the season
The first three minutes of the game summed up the whole match. Wold kicked off and after Wymondham failed to catch the ball, it bounced straight into touch for a Wymondham lineout . Wold stole the ball in the line and went through phase after phase of possession backwards and forwards across the pitch, working nearer and nearer to the opposition line until after three minutes Stuart Butler crashed over to score a truly great team try towards the right hand corner, with the opposition having not touched the ball.
The kick was missed but on the day Duncan Hume at 8 was on fire, and was involved in Wolds next three tries. First his quick hands in the line put Ben Haddingham in for a try by the left hand touchline. Next he stole the ball in a ruck and passed to Darius Mullen who put a great kick into the box which bounced awkwardly straight back into the charging Josh Crick's hands for him to score his first of five under the posts. Wolds fourth try came when Wold won a scrum against the head and Hume picked up at the back and made good ground before feeding the ball beautifully out to the backs for Josh Crick to score his second out wide on the left and with stand in kicker Haddingham only successful with one kick from the first four the score on 25minutes was 22 - 0 to Wold
Ben Balls on the left wing will want to forget what happened next when after charging over the line and coming round under the posts he couldn't resist one last attempt at a hand off towards a despairing Wymondham tackler and managed to drop the ball. An action he is not likely to repeat.
Wold's next try came when Aaron Bliss at centre broke the line and fed Stuart Butler who after two spectacular second row type sidesteps crashed over for his second. This was closely followed by a Ben Haddingham trademark monster " up and under " which was gathered by the Wymondham back line but they were caught in possession and Paul Ellwood stole and fed the ball out to Johnny Stevenson to score to the right of the posts, and Ben Haddingham having converted two in a row, the lead increased to 36 points.

At the restart the ball didn't go ten metres and from the scrum which Wold nominated they promptly won good ball which ended with Josh Crick running in for his third try wide on the left on the stroke of half time and less than a minute after Wold's previous

The second half saw Tim O Connell crash over for a converted try following a good break by Josh Crick and Ben Balls and Wold's next was Josh Crick's fourth after Ben Haddingham had broken the line of defence. Richie Thickett on the right wing then made a good run down the touchline to score and with the points score nearly keeping up with the minutes played it was 60 - 0 after 68 minutes to Wold
Ben Haddingham then made and converted the next try from Ben Balls, who redeemed himself well, and Wold made it twelve tries from a great run down the left hand touchline by Josh Crick, for his fifth of the day, which was also converted to make the final score 74 - 0 to Wold

The emphatic win means if Wold win with a bonus point next week at Ipswich YM, they will have amassed 86 points in the league and the title will be theirs as no-one will be able to catch them

17 wins from 17 games says a lot for the team spirit and the coaching staff of Butler and Webb who continue to do a great job. A 100% win record for the whole season now seems a possibility, incredible as it may seem
