WOLD VICTORIOUS IN THE FENS!!

Following the Christmas break, Wold made the long trip to Wisbech on Saturday to be faced with a Wisbech side that was fired up and seemingly wanted to be the first team to blemish Wold's one hundred percent record by whatever means possible
From the first scrum within five minutes of kick off, tempers flared following the clear dominance of the new look Wold front row of Adam Smith, Chris Aldous and newcomer Des Brett, who in that first front row match up had his ear bitten by his opposite number.
Clearly not used to being forced backwards at set piece scrums the Wisbech pack understandably did all they could to disrupt and spoil play which lead to hard work for the referee all afternoon and inevitably considerable time wasting, which of course worked in the home teams favour, as the Wold pack constantly pushed their opponents backwards at will.
All over the pitch the Wisbech side seemed intent on late tackles, with a few cheap shots mixed in for good measure, clearly a pre match plan, but it was all in vain as Wold were simply too strong and rolled over the opposition by superior fitness, strength and skill.
Having said that Chris Aldous at hooker, a self appointed minder for the day, with great help from Jonny Stephenson at flanker, did a great job of " peace keeping " all afternoon in their inimitable own fashion and should be applauded for their efforts in protecting their team mates, within the laws of the game, from further underhand attack.
Wold opened the scoring after quarter of an hour when skipper Webb caught the ball at the back of the line resulting in quick ball out to the backs and Rob Owles dummy and short pass let Josh Crick burst through the Wisbech line to score under the posts
This good try was bettered fifteen minutes later when Tim O Connell caught a ball at the front of the lineout and again the ball was fed out to the backs at pace, and after three great phases of possession backwards and forward across the pitch a sublime disguised backward flicked pass from Rob Owles to Pete Holmes resulted in the inside centre again bursting through the Wisbech line to score a true team try under the posts, and with Chippy Middleditch converting both tries Wold took a fourteen point lead
On the stroke of half time however Wisbech hit back with a good try of their own when having won a lineout they kept the ball moving and after a couple of well worked phases they broke the Wold defence in the middle of the pitch to run in and score from distance under the posts to make it 7 - 14 at half time
The Wisbech try lead to stern words at half time from coaches Butler and Webb, which fired Wold up at the start of the second half to score two unanswered tries in the first eight minutes. The first was from a lineout when Webb caught the ball at the back well and retained the ball for the pack to drive towards the line and Jonny Stevenson broke from five metres out to score. The second was almost a repeat but this time Johnny Stevenson caught the ball in the line, Chris Aldous made the initial break from the resulting forwards drive and he offloaded to Aaron Bliss who was backing up from full back to score at pace.
Chippy Middleditch converted both tries to put the game out of Wisbech's reach at
7 - 28 and Wold had also gained their precious bonus point.
Straight from the kick off Wold caught the ball and too casually began a passing move out to the left but a mistimed pass was intercepted by a quick thinking Wisbech centre and totally against the run of play the converted try narrowed the gap to fourteen points
Wold however, continued to dominate all round the pitch and within five minutes, Chris Aldous made a strong break from a ruck twenty metres out and Chippy Middleditch at scrum half backed up well to cap a fine personal performance and score a great try which he also converted to put Wold out of sight at 14 - 35
The lead meant changes could be made in the Wold line-up for the last twenty five minutes of the game and the only other moment of note was a consolation try for Wisbeech five minutes from time when they scored in the corner from a ruck and drive fter a scrappy period of play as the clock was winding down, but the travelling Wold supporters were already celebrating what was a staggeringly good and professionally executed away win
The win was psychologically great for Wold to set the team up mentally for next Saturday's top of the table clash with Ely on the common, K O 2.00pm, which should be a cracking encounter, as Wold attempt to do the double over the Cambridgeshire outfit, further strengthen their position at the top of Eastern Counties One, and maintain their unblemished record to date

Joint MOM v Wisbeech : The Wold Front Row of Smith, Aldous and Brett

Don't stay at home next Saturday.... come and cheer on the Black and Gold's and help them push for promotion and make it 14 wins from 14 games !!!
Lets have the Common Rocking and scare that Ely lot to death !!

Arn the Wold !!!
