The score line can't lie, but it doesn’t always tell the whole story.
Wold, top of the table, did hammer Woodbridge, rock bottom of the table on the common last Saturday and despite the windy and difficult conditions, they ran in eleven unanswered tries but a lot of the honour on the day must go to the visitors
Woodbridge came to Southwold with a massively weakened side and without their regular coach who was on abroad holiday, and but for some desperate ringing round on Saturday morning by the faithful few would not have had a team at all.
Credit where credit is due, as some of the young lads who rocked up and played were totally out of their depth, but by the end of the game had won the respect of even the most avid Wold supporters and players alike. For large portions of the game, Warriors is what the youngsters were and but for their huge hearts and efforts, and some poor Wold attempts at conversions, the Wold score could have been doubled.
Woodbridge should be applauded for honouring the fixture rather than taking the easy option of calling the game off
As to the game itself, a fantastic performance by Southwold Colt, Callum Anthony, standing in for the absent Rob Owles at fly half saw him score four tries, two of which were sparkling individual efforts. Two almost identical tries for the unstoppable Josh Crick in the centre who simply outpaced all the opposing backs, to twice score in the corner, is also worthy of special mention
Other tries came from Richie Thickett and Ben Balls on the wings, Chippy Middleditch at scrum half, Stuart Popplewell at prop with the last going to Zak Loader , another great Wold Colt who played at flanker.
Stand in kicker Ben Haddingham, still learning his trade converted three of the tries to make the final score 61 - 0 to Wold
It would be easy to award the man of the match to Callum Anthony for his four tries, or Josh Crick for his brace, but the man who was simply everywhere, involved in pretty much everything and made some stunning individual breaks was the pocket dynamo at hooker, James Hall who was simply outstanding on the day
The Wold win maintained their 100 % perfect record of twelve wins from twelve games to maintain their rightful position at the top of Eastern Counties One
The Christmas break now looms large with Wold's next fixture not being until the 10th Jan, away to Wisbech, closely followed by the mouth-watering top of the table clash against Ely at home the following week which should be an absolute humdinger and could well determine, barring disasters in the new year, where the league title may end up
