Following a frustrating fixture away at Crusaders in their last league fixture 'wold were looking to make amends and put in a solid performance for the full 80 against the team second in the league.

The game started with Newmarket enjoying the sea breeze at their backs and dominated the possession and territory in the early exchanges. The wold defence and line speed was impressive with Pete Holmes leading the way. Newmarket had 3 attempts at goal in the first 30, all missed.

Southwold had been playing the better rugby making line breaks and supporting well but it was the final pass that seemed to go awry. Towards the end of the half Adam 'chunk' Smith powered over from close range. Despite playing into the wind the home team went into the break 'points up'.

Southwold started the 2nd half brightly moving the ball well, strong carries from Tim O'Connell and Alex Rookyard put Southwold on the front foot. Slick passing put Frank Stephenson in space for his 1st try.

Newmarket came back into the game, carrying well around the fringes but solid defending again from the wold kept them at bay. A certain try scoring opportunity was denied when Chippy Middledtich, who was having a good game off the tee, pick-pocketed the rampaging second row and hoofed the ball 70m up the field. The resultant turnover led to a try for the ever graceful Ben Hadingham running an arc and much to his surprise out paced his opposite man.

This became the turning point and Southwold really began to dominate the game, there were further tries for Frank Stephenson and Piers 'move it' Currie.

All in all a comprehensive victory for Southwold and some excellent individual performances. Also, not one mention about the referee in the report - oh wait, damn.
