EPPING AND UPPER CLAPTON 12 – 41 SOUTHWOLD

By David Vaughan

Two missed tackles gave the home side a try under the posts in under three minutes but that was really the only time they has a sniff of victory in this game with a 7- 0 lead in under four minutes
A depleted Wold side did what was necessary to secure the bonus point win against struggling Epping, who to their credit battled to the inevitable end as the Wold superior handling proved a bit too much for the home side
Eppings lead was short lived as an unconverted try wide on the left from Ritchie Thickett followed by one from Sam Webb, with Luke Wade adding the extra two soon brought the score to 7 – 12 in Wold’s favour
Young prop Henry Dalton then smashed his way over dragging two defenders with him and with Wade again successful with the boot the score began to creep up at 7 – 19
Epping did then have a brief spell of good possession and scored a great team try wide right but too far out for the attempted conversion to make it 12 – 19 at the break
The second half had barely started before Jacob English crashed over by the posts and the Wold lead moved on the 7 – 26 with Luke Wade’s extra two points from the easy kick
Wade then added a penalty before Matt Warren muscled over for another try in front of the posts and also in front of his smiling father who had travelled down from Suffolk to watch the game and it was now a healthy 12 – 36 lead to the visitors and pretty much one way traffic
James Hall then joined the party as he so often does running in at pace for Wold’s next and last score of the game.
The 12 – 41 final score line was a pretty fair reflection of the game given Wold’s dominance but Epping can also be proud of their young side’s battling never say die spirit which was clear for all to see
Next week sees the long awaited top of the table clash with Norwich at home, and that will sort out the men from the boys

MOM : Phil Pymer at No 8 for his all round strength and tackling and who also got a nasty smack on his snout for his efforts from a very stray elbow
