MATCH REPORT FROM WOODFORD V SOUTHWOLD

Match report written by David Vaughan.

The third quarter of this game sealed the match for Woodford as Wold could not continue their valiant first half performance after the restart, and four well deserved tries for the home side in that crucial twenty minute period turned the whole game in their favour.
Fitness played a part and Woodford showed they were superior in that department as the game progressed and Wold's defence found it difficult to keep pace with Woodfords constant attacking rugby
Wold had scored the first try of the match when Cemil Duruk crashed over after a long period of Wold pressure and possession in Woodford's twenty two, but then the home side scored two tries on the spin to make the score 10 - 5 after 25 minutes
Four minutes before half time Wold were awarded a penalty in front of the posts but chose to scrum rather than kick. It proved to be the right decision as they won good ball and Ben Felton at No 10 ran to the blind side and left the covering winger for dead with a beautiful side step to score a try and add the additional two point with his conversion and Wold were ahead again at 10 - 12
It looked as if they would keep the lead until the break but a beautifully weighted kick over Wolds back line bobbled up perfectly for the Woodford winger to collect and gleefully score under the posts to snatch a 17 - 12 lead at the break after a competitive and even first half
Whatever the Woodford coach said to his players or fed them during the interval they came out revitalised for the second half and killed the game off in the next twenty minutes with simply some irresistible rugby showing why they are top of the league, and to leave the score after 62 minutes at 41 - 12
Wold did steady the ship and rallied well to score the final try of the match when Ben Felton sidestepped four times around Woodford players and fed Tom Crick who broke well up the middle of the pitch before offloading to Darius Mullen to score under the posts. In his haste to keep the game alive, as Wold chased the bonus point for a fourth try, Felton's drop goal conversion attempt failed miserably and that Wold try was to be the final points of the game as it ended 41 - 17 which was a fair score line but did not reflect the game over the whole eighty minutes as Woodford only really dominated for that crucial third quarter, but that had proved more than enough to take the points

MOM for Wold, Ben Felton, who rediscovered his amazing sidestep
