WOLD DO THE DOUBLE OVER THEIR NEAREST NEIGHBOURS

If at the beginning of the season Southwold could have written their own script for the whole season, it would not have been different to what actually happened apart from the one slip up at Newmarket.
The 2014 -2015 fairytale season was capped off by Wold yesterday with an emphatic double victory over their arch rivals to leave a feel good factor around the Club not seen for many a year
While many guests were still lunching the 1.30.pm Kick Off saw the Southwold Jacks take on the seemingly invincible Beccles Twos and for the first twenty minutes with Beccles scoring two converted tries it looked for all the world as if Beccles would continue their winning league topping season as they quickly took a 14 point lead.
However a couple of forced changes through injury changed the balance of the Wold side and really Beccles were never in the game again.
By half time they had pulled a couple of tries back but in the second half the Jacks simply romped to a resounding victory.
The ever green ( Ginger ) Piers Currie started to goose step well, spray passes about, kick with intelligence, and coupled with the addition of Day Harvey who took over at half time at scrum half the mature pair of half backs simply ran the show with Dayla simply outstanding even with his newly acquired little beer belly.
Tries came from all over but the highlight probably never to be seen again was Adam Levy diving over to score a great try like an olympic swimmer entering the water from his starting block, If only it had been captured on camera it would be one for the Clubhouse wall. Great stuff and so much for the green " Invincibles " from that other place near Southwold
The final score did not flatter Wold with Beccles only adding a terrific Wilkinsonesque drop goal, worthy of a mention but it came out of desperation as Beccles tried in vain to get close enough to the Wold line to score another try but failed
A great team performance, a more than worthy win, and for those watching a great tasting starter for the main meal that was to follow

3.00pm saw the Clubhouse emptied and both sides of the pitch packed with supporters for the eagerly awaited and much talked about main event
Right from the first scrum after a couple of minutes it was clear the Wold pack were going to dominate as they shoved Beccles backwards at a pace with the intimidating front row of Chunk, Aldo and Dessie Brett simply hurting their opposite numbers two of which in Luke Kelly and Jo Block were Wold players before transferring to Beccles earlier in the season
Beccles hardly got a touch of the ball in the first ten minutes and Wold first try came from a simple push over by the pack with Dunc Hume at 8 controlling well to touch down but Haddingham narrowly missed the two extra points from the kick

Wold's dominance in the pack spread all over the pitch with the black and golds running at Beccles all over the pitch. The Beccles crowd present in numbers were silenced and it came as no surprise when Wold were awarded a scrum five metres out that they simply repeated their first try and this time the conversion was good to make it 12 - 0 to Wold at half time, and had they taken all their chances it would have been a lot more.
The second half started in much the same fashion but after ten minutes or so Jo Block at prop mysteriously hobbled off injured and the scrums had to go non contested.
Whether it was genuine or not it took away Wold's advantage and even warranted an apology from the Beccles Chairman post match
It gave the Beccles backs the ball they had been starved of and the next try was theirs right down in the right hand corner which the outstanding Digger at full back duly converted to narrow the gap to five points
Beccles continued to press but in fact it was Wold who scored next with Stu Butler making the most of several drives right on the Beccles line to touch down for a well worked forwards try to the delight of the Wold supporters to extend the lead by a further five points with ten minutes to go.
Beccles were not finished though and when a high kick was knocked on in front of the posts Beccles eventually scored their second converted try and the lead was just three points which Wold protected until the final whistle
It was a deserved win and the score flattered an embarrassed Beccles team and crowd because of the uncontested scrum issue, but enough said

The double win capped a remarkable Wold season and great credit should be given to all those involved at all levels within the Club
Next season will see the two Clubs go head to head in the league which will be a mouth watering prospect but may mean changes to how the Pony Moore trophy is contested
For now though lets all bathe in some well deserved Wold glory on a day to be cherished at the end of a season never to be forgotten

Arn the Wold !!!
